Trademark registration in Kuwait

Plan Kuwait national trademark protection, Arabic and Latin brand versions, publication, registration and later portfolio changes without assuming another Gulf filing covers Kuwait.

The short answer

What should you know before filing in Kuwait?

Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry provides automated trademark services covering filing, examination, publication, registration and later transactions. Start with the Kuwait application record: a trade licence or a trademark registered in a neighbouring country is not the same record. [1]

Prepare the overseas owner and local filing arrangements

An overseas applicant should settle the local representative and document arrangements before filing. Prepare the owner's incorporation details, address and authorised signatory, then obtain a matter-specific checklist for powers of attorney, translations and authentication. The relevant MOCI service identifies the trademark owner or legal representative as the service user. [1]

Kuwait: decisions that shape your application

Kuwait should have a distinct line in a Gulf brand plan. Make the territorial decision early enough that the initial product launch, distributor instructions and trademark application all identify the same intended owner.

Planning example — not a client case

A fragrance business has a UAE application and is negotiating a Kuwait distribution agreement. It should prepare a separate Kuwait brief containing the bottle branding, the proposed Arabic name, the actual fragrance and retail activities, and the earlier filing record. The distributor's commercial readiness does not establish Kuwait trademark clearance.

Prepare for a useful review

Prepare your Kuwait application brief

Use this practical preparation list to connect the official procedure with the information your filing professional will need.

  1. A distinct Kuwait filing instruction even if other Gulf applications exist.
  2. Proposed Arabic and Latin branding and distributor approval records.
  3. The owner, representative and requested authority-document pack.
  4. The launch schedule and responsibility for publication and certificate follow-up.

Planning example — not a client case

Brief example: for fragrances distributed under an Arabic brand version, prepare a table with one row per offering and columns for the actual sign, intended owner, launch date and evidence already available. Attach the final artwork and list unresolved questions separately, so the reviewer can distinguish facts from assumptions.

Editorial preparation guidance added 9 September 2026. Individual requirements and any legal conclusion need professional review.

How much does trademark registration in Kuwait cost?

For the agreed mark, applicant, classes and filing route, the published all-in package covers the normal process through initial registration, including standard professional work and government application and registration fees, when there is no office action, refusal or opposition. Responses to objections or disputes, changes to the agreed scope and post-registration maintenance are quoted separately.

Standard package

Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.

Separate when needed

Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.

Use Trademarkora's current published quote for the agreed normal registration scope. The official sources describe government charges and procedural steps; do not add those charges to a package again without checking what is included. Extra classes, disputed proceedings, exceptional document work and later maintenance require their own scope. No amount on an old official form should replace the current quote.

From application to registration

  1. 1

Collect the owner, mark and product information

Prepare a controlled copy of the artwork and a product list showing what customers buy. Include earlier applications and proposed launch dates, and flag any dispute with a distributor before treating the matter as a routine new application.

  2. 2

    File and keep the reference

MOCI's automated trademark service provides a national filing and examination workflow. Keep the receipt and application reference, verify the recorded owner and use the reference to connect subsequent notices to the right matter. [1]

  3. 3

Handle examination before promising an outcome

Ask the professional handling the application to explain any request or refusal in terms of the affected mark and goods. Compare possible responses, narrowing or a new brand version before committing to additional packaging.

  4. 4

    Monitor the publication stage

MOCI's registration-and-certificate service describes proceeding after a 60-day publication period where no opposition has been filed. Publication is a stage to monitor, not a certificate or assurance that nobody will challenge the mark. [2]

  5. 5

Complete registration and verify the certificate

Check that the final official record matches the approved owner, mark and scope. Confirm completion of any required registration-stage steps within the agreed quote and retain the official evidence. [2]

Our service planning reference is 10–14 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.

Prepare your application

This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.

Documents & details

  • Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
  • A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
  • Power of attorney: signed, stamped, original.
  • Provide English translations of the business licence or personal ID.

A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.

Plan the actual territory and filing route

Direct application

Kuwait has its own national filing procedure through MOCI. Coordinate the filing instructions with the authorised representative and retain the official record rather than relying solely on an intermediary's progress description. [1]

International & neighbouring markets

Kuwait is not listed as a Madrid member as of 9 September 2026. Plan a national filing; a designation of another Gulf country does not include Kuwait. [4]

The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.

Keeping the registration in force

MOCI lists renewal and late-renewal services, including renewal within six months after expiry. Confirm the registered expiry, applicable charges and documentary requirements early rather than relying on the late window. [1]

The official service catalogue includes ownership, name/address and licensing transactions. A corporate change should trigger a record review; keep both the signed underlying document and the evidence of any required register update. [1]

Preserve dated Kuwait-facing use evidence and the approved Arabic artwork. Review whether a product expansion or new logo needs additional protection instead of assuming that a certificate for one version automatically captures every later presentation.

Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
