Trademark registration in Singapore
Plan the owner, Singapore address for service and specific goods or services before choosing a direct application or Madrid designation.

The short answer
What should you know before filing in Singapore?
A Singapore registration protects the specified goods or services in Singapore. Choose a distinctive mark and review earlier marks before filing; a company name or overseas registration is not a substitute for this protection. [4][1]
Foreign applicants can apply; local service arrangements still matter
IPOS permits foreign individuals and companies to apply directly with the required Singpass/Corppass access and an address for service in Singapore. An applicant without those arrangements may appoint an agent. A service address receives official correspondence; it does not mean that the applicant owns a Singapore office. [2]
Three decisions for your Singapore filing
Start with the business you intend to carry on. A regional launch plan needs a separate decision about Singapore coverage.
| Your situation | What to decide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| A foreign company owns the brand | Identify the legal applicant | Keep the applicant name and address consistent with the company record. Confirm who receives official correspondence and who may instruct the filing. [2] |
| Your brand covers several activities | Describe the actual goods and services | IPOS uses Nice classes and pre-approved descriptions. Class numbers alone do not describe the protected activity; wording also affects the applicable official fee. [1][3] |
| You have an overseas application | Compare direct and Madrid routes | Madrid eligibility depends on a connection to an Office of origin and a basic mark. Singapore still examines protection locally. [6] |

Hypothetical example: products and an online shop
A skincare brand plans to sell its own creams and operate an online shop featuring several brands. Prepare two activity lists: the goods carrying its mark and the retail service offered under that mark. Show the reviewer the proposed labels and storefront separately. This helps identify what is offered; it does not decide classes or availability automatically.
Prepare for a useful review
Make correspondence and local wording part of the brief
Agree who will receive an IPOS notice and how it reaches the person making decisions. The service arrangement is part of a workable filing plan.
- Provide the proposed applicant, exact mark and specific activities.
- Confirm the Singapore service-address and filing-access arrangements before submission.
- Record other launch markets separately; a Singapore registration is not ASEAN-wide protection.
Planning example — not a client case
Hypothetical example: an overseas software company also sells devices in Singapore. Explain the software delivery model and the physical products separately. The scope discussion can then work from what users receive, rather than a broad 'technology' description.

How much does trademark registration in Singapore cost?
For the agreed mark, applicant, classes and filing route, the published all-in package covers the normal process through initial registration, including standard professional work and government application and registration fees, when there is no office action, refusal or opposition. Responses to objections or disputes, changes to the agreed scope and post-registration maintenance are quoted separately.
Published all-in filing prices
- 1 class
- $699
- 2 classes
- $1,198
- 3 classes
- $1,697
- 4+ classes
- Exact Quote
One trademark, one applicant, standard direct electronic filing; standard government filing fee included; country-specific standard item limits apply.
Review current pricing and scope →Standard package
Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.
Separate when needed
Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.
IPOS application fees depend on classes and the pre-approved wording conditions. Acceleration and later procedural work have separate fee categories. The published Trademarkora amount is the existing standard filing package; request a scoped quote for additional work instead of adding the standard filing fee again. [3]
From application to registration
- 1
Prepare and submit
File the applicant, mark and goods/services details using Form TM4 with the applicable fee. [1]
- 2
Examination
IPOS checks the application. An objection requires a response within the notice's applicable deadline; preparation alone does not secure registration. [1]
- 3
Publication
An accepted application is published for a two-month opposition period. A dispute can interrupt the route to registration. [1]
- 4
Registration
If the requirements are satisfied and no opposition prevents it, IPOS issues the registration certificate. [1]
Our service planning reference is 9–14 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.
Prepare your application
This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.
Documents & details
- Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
- A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
Planning & records
- Filing acknowledgement estimate
- 3–5 working days
- Certificate format
- Electronic certificate
A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.
Direct IPOS filing or a Madrid designation?
Direct application
A direct application uses the national filing process. Confirm electronic access, the service address and final specification before authorising submission. [2]
International & neighbouring markets
Eligible applicants can seek Singapore protection through Madrid. The international application rests on a basic application or registration; WIPO formalities and Singapore substantive examination serve different purposes. Compare portfolio administration and local requirements before choosing. [6]
The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.
Compare countries and registration routes →Keeping the registration in force
Registrations can be renewed in successive ten-year periods. Organise the renewal record and keep the service address current so correspondence reaches the responsible person. [5]
An uninterrupted five-year period of non-use can expose a registration to revocation. Keep dated evidence of genuine Singapore use; a non-use issue requires assessment and does not automatically erase a register entry. [4]
Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
