Trademark registration in Qatar

Prepare the Qatar owner, mark representation, goods list and correspondence arrangements; distinguish a national filing from Madrid designation and plan for publication, registration and renewal.

The short answer

What should you know before filing in Qatar?

Qatar's Ministry of Commerce and Industry provides the national trademark process. Its application materials ask for the applicant, mark and goods or services. A Qatar filing should be planned as its own territorial protection decision, even where the same brand is being launched across the Gulf. [1]

Prepare the overseas owner and local filing arrangements

The official application form includes a Qatar outlet for delivery of registration correspondence and documents. Confirm the appropriate representative and service arrangements for the overseas owner, including the current authority and authentication requirements. Do not use a trading partner's address without agreeing who will receive and act on notices. [2]

Qatar: decisions that shape your application

A useful Qatar brief links the actual brand presentation to the owner, local correspondence arrangements and the intended product or service offering.

English and Arabic will appear togetherPrepare the real presentationShow the word alone, the translated or transliterated version and the combined artwork as separate items. Ask which filing structure fits the intended use instead of assuming every format is covered by one logo application.
A prior overseas application existsCollect the priority evidence earlyProvide the first application's date, number, office and applicant details. Ask the reviewer to assess whether priority can be claimed, calculate the deadline and identify the supporting evidence.
You sell goods and provide a separate serviceSplit the business descriptionList the physical goods separately from the service customers buy. Use sample labels, menus or service descriptions to explain the distinction; let the local review determine acceptable class wording.

Planning example — not a client case

A hospitality company intends to license a branded café concept in Doha and sell packaged drinks. Its brief should distinguish the café service from the packaged goods and identify the owner rather than assume the local operator owns the brand. Collect the artwork and the intended language versions before asking for the filing options.

Prepare for a useful review

Prepare your Qatar application brief

Use this practical preparation list to connect the official procedure with the information your filing professional will need.

  1. The brand image and proposed Arabic wording together with its meaning.
  2. The applicant and Qatar correspondence or representative details.
  3. The existing base application if a Madrid designation is being considered.
  4. A product-by-product scope list and a separate record of any distributor ownership issue.

Planning example — not a client case

Brief example: for a hotel brand with separately supplied booking services, prepare a table with one row per offering and columns for the actual sign, intended owner, launch date and evidence already available. Attach the final artwork and list unresolved questions separately, so the reviewer can distinguish facts from assumptions.

Standard package

Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.

Separate when needed

Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.

Use Trademarkora's current published quote for the agreed normal registration scope. The official sources describe government charges and procedural steps; do not add those charges to a package again without checking what is included. Extra classes, disputed proceedings, exceptional document work and later maintenance require their own scope. No amount on an old official form should replace the current quote.

From application to registration

  1. 1

    1. Confirm the owner and scope

Prepare a concise business description and the exact brand representations. Identify who may approve filing instructions and who will keep the resulting records. Give the reviewer existing registrations and potentially relevant Qatar records.

  2. 2

    2. Assemble the application documents

Use the current MOCI form and the representative's instructions for supporting documents. The official form requests applicant and mark particulars and local correspondence information. Check names and transliterations across the pack before filing. [2]

  3. 3

    3. Track examination and any response

Retain each official communication with its receipt date. Separate an administrative correction from an objection affecting registrability. A response should be based on the full communication and the approved scope, not only a short portal status.

  4. 4

    4. Follow publication and objection procedures

MOCI publishes dedicated forms for opposition, replies and hearings. Confirm the publication date and the applicable response period for the actual file; an accepted application still needs to complete the remaining procedure. [3]

  5. 5

    5. Verify registration and portfolio data

Once registered, verify the mark, owner and goods against the instructions. Save the official record together with the application history so renewal or a later ownership transaction can be prepared from reliable information.

Our service planning reference is 12–16 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.

Prepare your application

This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.

Documents & details

  • Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
  • A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
  • Power of attorney: signed, stamped, notarised and legalised, document.
  • Provide a statement explaining the intended use.

A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.

Plan the actual territory and filing route

Direct application

The national route is a Qatar MOCI application. A Qatar company or branch registration and a national trademark application serve different functions. [1]

International & neighbouring markets

Qatar joined Madrid with effect from 3 August 2024. Eligible applicants can designate Qatar; local examination remains applicable. [5]

The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.

Keeping the registration in force

MOCI's official renewal bulletin records renewed trademarks for ten-year periods. Calendar your own renewal from the registered dates and current instructions; a bulletin entry for another mark is not evidence of your renewal. [4]

MOCI provides distinct forms for ownership transfers, licences, changes and partial deletion of goods. Identify the actual transaction before selecting a form or assuming that updating company records changes the trademark register. [3]

Keep the Qatar correspondence contact current and collect commercial-use materials in the portfolio file. Where a franchise or distribution arrangement changes, have the trademark and contract records reviewed together.

Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
