Trademark registration in Saudi Arabia

Plan a Saudi trademark application, Arabic brand presentation, publication and renewal, with the Madrid route's 8 October 2026 start date clearly distinguished from today's filing options.

The short answer

What should you know before filing in Saudi Arabia?

SAIP handles Saudi trademark applications. The filing concerns a specified mark and goods or services in Saudi Arabia; a trade name or a registration elsewhere is a different matter. Prepare a Saudi-specific search and wording review before relying on a regional brand launch. [1]

Prepare the overseas owner and local filing arrangements

SAIP's registration service provides for an owner or authorised agent and identifies agent-registration requirements. Confirm the representative's authority and the supporting documents for the overseas applicant. Keep the applicant's legal identity separate from the importer, local commercial partner and person operating an electronic account. [1]

Rule update to know

Time-sensitive route update: WIPO states that the Madrid Protocol enters into force for Saudi Arabia on 8 October 2026. This guide is checked on 9 September 2026. Future availability must not be presented as a route already open today. [4]

Saudi Arabia: decisions that shape your application

The most consequential current route issue is timing: Saudi Arabia's Madrid accession has been announced, but its effective date has not yet arrived on this guide's source-check date.

Planning example — not a client case

A food brand is planning a Saudi launch in September 2026 and already has an international registration. The team should review the available national route now and separately consider the future Madrid designation option. The useful comparison includes urgency, priority, goods wording and representative arrangements; it is not simply a choice based on the number of application forms.

Prepare for a useful review

Prepare your Saudi Arabia application brief

Use this practical preparation list to connect the official procedure with the information your filing professional will need.

  1. Arabic and Latin versions intended for products, shop signs or online services.
  2. The exact applicant, authorised signatory and proposed national representative.
  3. A scope list separating branded goods, retail and other services.
  4. The planned filing date: a proposed Madrid route must account for the 8 October 2026 effective date.

Planning example — not a client case

Brief example: for a restaurant name with packaged food products, prepare a table with one row per offering and columns for the actual sign, intended owner, launch date and evidence already available. Attach the final artwork and list unresolved questions separately, so the reviewer can distinguish facts from assumptions.

Editorial preparation guidance added 9 September 2026. Individual requirements and any legal conclusion need professional review.

How much does trademark registration in Saudi Arabia cost?

For the agreed mark, applicant, classes and filing route, the published all-in package covers the normal process through initial registration, including standard professional work and government application and registration fees, when there is no office action, refusal or opposition. Responses to objections or disputes, changes to the agreed scope and post-registration maintenance are quoted separately.

Standard package

Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.

Separate when needed

Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.

Use Trademarkora's current published quote for the agreed normal registration scope. The official sources describe government charges and procedural steps; do not add those charges to a package again without checking what is included. Extra classes, disputed proceedings, exceptional document work and later maintenance require their own scope. No amount on an old official form should replace the current quote.

From application to registration

  1. 1

    1. Confirm the Saudi brief

Collect the owner details, mark, proposed Arabic wording, specific products and any earlier filing dates. Ask for a local review of the sign and specification. Mark whether the brand version is final or still being developed.

  2. 2

    2. File through the appropriate SAIP service

SAIP directs filings from 19 December 2023 onward to its unified IP platform, while older files may remain on the earlier service. Keep the actual application number and filing record; a portal account alone does not establish filing. [1]

  3. 3

    3. Manage the examination stage

Record requests for correction, objections and decisions separately. Ask the representative to explain any proposed restriction of goods or amendment before approval. Use the deadline in the actual official communication for the case.

  4. 4

    4. Monitor the publication period

SAIP identifies a 60-day publication stage. Publication is an opportunity for third-party challenge, not a substitute for registration. If an objection appears, obtain a separately scoped response and keep it apart from an ordinary unopposed filing. [1]

  5. 5

    5. Finish the registration steps

Complete the remaining requirements and check the issued record. Store the owner, representation, covered goods and dates in your portfolio file. Reconcile the result with the original instructions before circulating it as proof of scope.

Our service planning reference is 8–10 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.

Prepare your application

This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.

Documents & details

  • Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
  • A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
  • Original signed and stamped power of attorney, with notarisation and legalisation.
  • Keep the applicant address below 100 characters, including punctuation and spaces.
  • Foreign individual applicants need their applicant-category entry checked before filing.

A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.

Plan the actual territory and filing route

Direct application

The direct Saudi route is a national SAIP application. For a Gulf programme, make a separate territory decision for each market instead of treating GCC membership as a single registration. [1]

International & neighbouring markets

WIPO announces Saudi Madrid entry into force on 8 October 2026. On 9 September 2026, Saudi designation under that accession is not yet available. [4]

The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.

Keeping the registration in force

SAIP states a ten-year trademark protection term. Its renewal service should be used with the dates and owner details on the actual registration record. Ask the representative to identify the relevant calendar and renewal window explicitly. [2][3]

Retain evidence of Saudi-facing use and instructions to commercial partners. Review ownership changes and new brand versions with the adviser; renewal is not the same exercise as expanding coverage.

For a future Madrid portfolio, keep international renewal administration distinct from Saudi objections, use issues and other local requirements. Central management does not replace a local response where one is needed.

Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
