Trademark registration in Thailand

Plan Thai and Latin brand versions, precise product descriptions, local filing arrangements, the 60-day opposition stage and renewal under Thailand's trademark procedure.

The short answer

What should you know before filing in Thailand?

Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property administers trademark registration. Prepare the actual Thai-facing brand and goods or services for local review. [1]

Prepare the overseas owner and local filing arrangements

Section 10 requires a Thai contact office or address for the applicant or agent. Overseas owners should confirm representation, Thai-language materials and authority documents before filing. [1]

Thailand: decisions that shape your application

For Thailand, the local-language presentation and the description of each offering deserve early attention. Keep the national application process separate from translation, advertising or company-registration work.

Filing choices for Thailand: situation, decision and practical implications
Your situationWhat to decideWhy it matters
A Thai name will accompany the English brandReview the local-facing versionProvide the exact Thai spelling and its meaning, along with the Latin mark. Show whether they appear as independent signs or as one logo. A transliteration chosen by a distributor should be reviewed before it becomes the settled brand.
You use broad catalogue headingsReplace headings with concrete offeringsExplain the function, composition or use of each product, and what each service delivers. Have the representative check acceptable Thai descriptions; a marketing phrase is rarely a useful specification by itself.
You find a similar mark in another classReview commercial proximityDo not dismiss the record merely because the class number differs. Explain the product relationship, customers and sales channels so the professional can assess the significance of the similarity. [1]

Planning example — not a client case

A wellness brand plans packaged drinks, nutritional products and fitness coaching in Thailand. It should bring precise product information, the coaching description and both Thai and English branding into the review. A single phrase such as wellness solutions does not explain the filing scope, and a new Thai name deserves its own search discussion.

Prepare for a useful review

Prepare your Thailand application brief

Use this practical preparation list to connect the official procedure with the information your filing professional will need.

  1. Final Thai spelling, meaning and Latin artwork.
  2. The locally reviewed Thai goods/services wording.
  3. Owner and local contact details plus the current authority checklist.
  4. A responsible contact for examination, opposition and registration-stage notices.

Planning example — not a client case

Brief example: for drinks and independently sold fitness coaching, prepare a table with one row per offering and columns for the actual sign, intended owner, launch date and evidence already available. Attach the final artwork and list unresolved questions separately, so the reviewer can distinguish facts from assumptions.

Editorial preparation guidance added 9 September 2026. Individual requirements and any legal conclusion need professional review.

Standard package

Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.

Separate when needed

Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.

Use Trademarkora's current published quote for the agreed normal registration scope. The official sources describe government charges and procedural steps; do not add those charges to a package again without checking what is included. Extra classes, disputed proceedings, exceptional document work and later maintenance require their own scope. No amount on an old official form should replace the current quote.

From application to registration

  1. 1

Prepare the mark and owner record

Provide the controlled artwork, owner details, actual product/service list and any earlier filing relevant to priority. Ask the representative to identify translations and authority documents that must accompany or follow the application.

  2. 2

Submit and preserve the application details

Use the agreed national route and retain the filing date, application number and submitted specification. Compare the filed version with the approved instructions before treating the matter as administratively complete.

  3. 3

    Review examination and any objections

Separate questions about distinctiveness, earlier marks, wording and documents. Ask for an explanation of the response options, including the commercial impact of a disclaimer, restriction or alternative mark, before issuing instructions.

  4. 4

    Monitor publication

Section 35 provides 60 days after publication for opposition. Record the publication date and have any opposition reviewed promptly. [1]

  5. 5

    Complete the registration stage

Section 40 requires the registration fee within 60 days of notice. Confirm completion within the agreed package, then check the certificate. [1]

Our service planning reference is About 18 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.

Prepare your application

This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.

Documents & details

  • Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
  • A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
  • Provide a mark image for both word and design marks.

A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.

Plan the actual territory and filing route

Direct application

A Thai national filing follows DIP's procedure, with local contact arrangements and a reviewed specification. Ask the representative to connect every notice to its official reference and deadline. [1]

International & neighbouring markets

Thailand is a Madrid member. An eligible designation remains subject to Thai examination, and any refusal needs a locally informed response. [4]

The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.

Keeping the registration in force

The Act provides ten-year terms linked to the deemed registration date. Renewal is available in the three months before expiry, with a six-month late window and surcharge. Confirm the recorded dates. [1]

Keep dated Thailand-facing use material for the registered version: packaging, invoices, advertisements and relevant service records. If a product line stops or the logo changes materially, ask for a protection review rather than waiting until renewal.

DIP's English translation is informational; the Thai Gazette text governs. Have the applicable Thai notices and deadlines checked in the actual matter. [1]

Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
