Prepare Vietnam trademark protection with local representation, an accurate goods list, current 2026 procedural forms and a separate plan for examination, opposition and maintenance.

The short answer
What should you know before filing in Vietnam?
IP Viet Nam administers national trademark registration and publishes application, examination and post-registration procedures. Prepare the intended brand and goods/services for Vietnam specifically; an export business should consider both its manufacturing relationship and the markets where the mark needs protection. [1]
Prepare the overseas owner and local filing arrangements
IPVN distinguishes applicants able to file directly from foreign applicants requiring a lawful representative in Vietnam. An overseas owner without the relevant local residence or establishment should arrange representation and confirm the current authority and translation requirements before filing. Provide the owner's legal identity and earlier application records. [2]
Rule update to know
Vietnam's 2026 legislative changes affect procedural planning. Older published examination estimates should be reconciled with the current law and transition rules before being used for a new matter. [3]
Vietnam: decisions that shape your application
Vietnam revised its IP framework in 2026. Older English summaries can remain online alongside newer legislation and forms, so the representative should confirm which rules apply to the particular filing and procedural stage.
| Your situation | What to decide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Vietnam is both a production and sales location | Separate the commercial roles | Explain whether the brand appears on locally sold goods, export packaging, a manufacturing service or all three. A factory's role should not silently determine who owns the trademark application. |
| The mark contains Vietnamese or another local-facing version | Provide the final wording and meaning | Show the exact spelling, accents and artwork intended for customers. Keep translated product descriptions alongside the original technical descriptions so the reviewer can resolve ambiguity. |
| You are using an old application checklist | Verify the 2026 forms and transition rules | IPVN's current procedure collection references 2026 decrees and circulars. Have the professional confirm the relevant form and rule rather than assuming a template downloaded years ago remains suitable. [1] |

Planning example — not a client case
A furniture business sources products in Vietnam and plans a local showroom. Its brief should separate the furniture goods, showroom-related services, the owner and the manufacturer. Include the packaging mark, proposed Vietnamese-facing presentation and any overseas filing that may matter to the timing. The manufacturing contract and trademark application need coordinated instructions.
Prepare for a useful review
Prepare your Vietnam application brief
Use this practical preparation list to connect the official procedure with the information your filing professional will need.
- Owner, manufacturer and distributor roles identified separately.
- Vietnamese-facing wording and precise technical product descriptions.
- The current 2026 forms and a representative-confirmed document checklist.
- Earlier applications, launch timing and any existing third-party notice.
Planning example — not a client case
Brief example: for furniture goods and a local showroom, prepare a table with one row per offering and columns for the actual sign, intended owner, launch date and evidence already available. Attach the final artwork and list unresolved questions separately, so the reviewer can distinguish facts from assumptions.

How much does trademark registration in Vietnam cost?
For the agreed mark, applicant, classes and filing route, the published all-in package covers the normal process through initial registration, including standard professional work and government application and registration fees, when there is no office action, refusal or opposition. Responses to objections or disputes, changes to the agreed scope and post-registration maintenance are quoted separately.
Published all-in filing prices
- 1 class
- $499
- 2 classes
- $998
- 3 classes
- $1,497
- 4+ classes
- Exact Quote
One trademark, one applicant, standard direct electronic filing; standard government filing fee included; country-specific standard item limits apply.
Review current pricing and scope →Standard package
Application preparation, goods and services wording, filing-quality review, approved electronic filing and standard completion through initial registration, within the agreed scope.
Separate when needed
Non-standard official fees, translations, notarisation, objections, opposition and later maintenance are outside the standard scope unless expressly included.
Use Trademarkora's current published quote for the agreed normal registration scope. The official sources describe government charges and procedural steps; do not add those charges to a package again without checking what is included. Extra classes, disputed proceedings, exceptional document work and later maintenance require their own scope. No amount on an old official form should replace the current quote.
From application to registration
- 1
Create a precise preparation pack
Provide the applicant identity, mark reproduction, goods/services list and any earlier filing to be assessed for priority. Flag an existing objection, ownership dispute or supplier-held registration as a separate issue requiring review.
- 2
Confirm current forms and submit
IPVN's procedure collection includes updated 2026 legal references. Confirm the applicable national submission method and formalities, keep the official receipt and check the filed owner and specification against the approved instructions. [1]
- 3
Track formalities and publication
Record each official status and publication event. Have the representative explain whether an issue concerns missing information, a classification correction or a substantive obstacle; these call for different decisions.
- 4
Assess examination and third-party issues
The government's May 2026 account of the revised IP law describes reducing trademark examination from nine to five months. This is a statutory examination-stage change, not a promised total registration time. Confirm commencement, transitional application and the actual notice deadlines for the matter. [3]
- 5
Check the grant and final scope
Obtain the official outcome and check the owner, mark, goods/services and relevant dates. Where a restriction or refusal affected part of the application, keep the final protected scope visible in the portfolio record.
Our service planning reference is 18–24 months for a straightforward application. This is not an official average or a deadline commitment. Document preparation, examination, objections or opposition can change the total time.
Prepare your application
This is our service-preparation checklist, confirmed 6 September 2026. It is separate from the official eligibility and procedural rules linked in this guide; requirements depend on the applicant and filing route.
Documents & details
- Trademark details, including the applicant’s name and address, the mark, and the goods or services.
- A scan of the business licence or personal ID.
Planning & records
- Filing acknowledgement estimate
- 7–10 working days
- Certificate format
- Paper certificate
A filing acknowledgement is not a registration. Confirm the final checklist and schedule before approving a filing.
Plan the actual territory and filing route
Direct application
A national application uses IPVN's procedures and the applicable local representation and document rules. Agree the current Vietnamese specification and preparation checklist before filing. [1]
International & neighbouring markets
Vietnam is a Madrid member. A designation can be compared with national filing, while local examination and refusal-response requirements remain relevant. [4]
The published filing prices on this page describe the standard direct application scope. A different route, additional territory or unusual requirement needs its own scope confirmation.
Compare countries and registration routes →Keeping the registration in force
Use IPVN's maintenance procedures to verify renewal and other required transactions for the recorded mark. Set reminders from the official expiry and the currently applicable renewal window, with time for signatures, translations and corrections. [1]
Keep Vietnam-facing use records, authorised manufacturing and distribution information, and dated versions of packaging. If use or ownership is challenged, evidence should connect the correct owner and mark with particular goods and dates.
Review the portfolio when the owner changes, the brand is redesigned or the product range expands. A commercial transfer or new product launch should trigger a check of register updates and additional filing needs, rather than being left until the next renewal.
Keep the owner’s details, actual use records and renewal dates organised. A dispute or official notice needs its own review; it is not included automatically in a standard filing.
